OUR LEGACY
The Van Leesten family story begins with the union of Cora Robinson, a 1909 graduate of Pembroke College (Brown University) to Hendrik Van Leesten, former Minister of Agriculture in Suriname, South America. They met at Tuskeegee Institute in Alabama where Cora was a professor of English and Hendrik was a foreign student studying agriculture under George Washington Carver.
